Best Marrakech Day Trips
Marrakech is the easiest city in Morocco to base yourself in for day trips, since so much of the country’s best scenery is within a few hours’ drive. Here are our most popular day trips from Marrakech:

Ourika Valley
Just under an hour from the city, the Ourika Valley winds through the High Atlas foothills, past Berber villages, walnut groves, and small waterfalls. Because it's so close, this trip works well if you only have a half day free.

Ouzoud Waterfalls
Ouzoud is Morocco's tallest waterfall, dropping over 100 meters into a rocky gorge below. Wild Barbary macaques often gather near the viewpoints, and a short hike lets you reach the pools at the base. Although it's a longer drive than Ourika, most travelers say the waterfall is worth the extra time.

Essaouira
This coastal town offers a complete change of pace from Marrakech's heat and bustle. Essaouira's fortified medina, blue fishing boats, and Atlantic breeze make it a popular full-day escape, especially in summer.
Best Fes Day Trips
Fes opens up a different side of Morocco, closer to the Middle Atlas and the country’s northern landscapes.

Ifrane & the Cedar Forest
Often nicknamed "Little Switzerland," Ifrane's alpine architecture feels unlike anywhere else in Morocco. Nearby, the Azrou cedar forest is home to Barbary macaques living wild among the trees.

Chefchaouen (Extended Day Trip)
Although Chefchaouen sits roughly 3.5 hours from Fes, some travelers still visit it as a long day trip if an overnight stay isn't possible. The blue-washed streets of the medina make for one of Morocco's most photographed destinations.

Volubilis & Meknes
Volubilis holds some of the best-preserved Roman ruins in North Africa, including detailed mosaic floors still visible on-site. Many tours pair it with nearby Meknes, an imperial city with monumental gates and a quieter medina than Fes or Marrakech.
Day Trips from Casablanca
Casablanca works less as a desert gateway and more as a base for coastal and historical excursions.

Rabat
Morocco's capital sits under an hour from Casablanca by car or train. Rabat's Kasbah of the Udayas, Hassan Tower, and royal mausoleum make for an easy, relaxed day.

Marrakech (Extended Day Trip)
Casablanca to Marrakech takes around 2.5–3 hours each way, so this option suits travelers with a long, flexible day rather than a short window.

El Jadida
This Portuguese-built coastal town features a well-preserved cistern and fortified old town, both quieter and less crowded than Essaouira.
