Next, you’ll reach the cedar forest of Azrou, where wild Barbary monkeys roam freely. They’re happy to be fed, and it makes for a great photo stop. You’ll stop for lunch in Midelt. After that, you’ll follow the Ziz River through the dramatic Ziz Gorges before arriving in Merzouga by late afternoon.

Overnight: Hotel in Merzouga (dinner and breakfast included)

You’ll drive through the dunes of Erg Chebbi and visit nomad families who still live in traditional tents. Then you’ll head to the village of Khamlia, where you’ll meet Gnaoua musicians — descendants of Sudanese and Malian communities — and enjoy a traditional Berber lunch.

In the afternoon, your camels will be waiting. You’ll trek into the dunes at sunset before arriving at your desert camp for the night. Dinner is a traditional tagine, served with mint tea. After that, local musicians play Berber music around the fire while you take in the stars above the Sahara.

Day 6: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorges – Dades Gorge

Wake up early to catch the sunrise over the dunes — it’s one of the best moments on the entire trip. After breakfast, you’ll ride the camels back to the hotel. Then you’ll set off west, visiting the market of Rissani, once a key stop on trans-Saharan trade routes.

You’ll pass through the palm-lined valleys of Tinjdad and Tinghir on the way. At midday, you’ll reach the Todra Gorges, a dramatic limestone canyon with walls rising to 300 metres, where you’ll have lunch before continuing to the Dades Gorge.

Overnight: Hotel in Dades Gorge (dinner and breakfast included)

Day 7: Dades Gorge – Rose Valley – Skoura – Ouarzazate

After breakfast, you’ll walk through the Dades Gorge and explore some local nomad caves along the valley walls. Then you’ll continue through El Kalaa M’gouna, the famous Rose Town, where farmers pick over 400 tonnes of rose petals every spring to make rosewater and perfumes.
