Itinerary: 6 Days Tour in Morocco from Marrakech
Day 1: Marrakech – Telouet – Aït Benhaddou – Ouarzazate
We leave Marrakech early and climb toward the Tizi n’Tichka pass at 2,260 meters. Because the road winds through the High Atlas, you’ll pass Berber villages and dramatic mountain scenery along the way. Along the route, we stop at the village of Telouet to visit its rarely-seen hilltop kasbah before continuing to lunch.
After lunch, we take an old piste track to Aït Benhaddou, a fortified ksar declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. Films like Lawrence of Arabia and Jesus of Nazareth used this kasbah as a filming location. From there, the route drops down to Ouarzazate, the gateway to the Sahara Desert, where we spend the first night in a kasbah hotel.
Overnight: Kasbah hotel in Ouarzazate (dinner and breakfast included)
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Skoura – Dades Valley – Roses Valley
We leave Ouarzazate and head to Skoura, where we visit the Amridil Kasbah — a powerful fortified building that impresses with both its size and its detail. After that, the route follows the Thousand Kasbahs Road through the Dades Valley toward Kalaat M’Gouna for lunch.
This area holds the famous Roses Valley, where harvests run abundantly from late April through June. In the afternoon, we explore Bou Tharar through the valley to Tourbiste, a stretch rarely visited on shorter 6 days tour from Marrakech itineraries. We watch the sunset from the valley before returning to Kalaat M’Gouna for dinner.
Overnight: Hotel in Kalaat M'Gouna (dinner and breakfast included)
Day 3: Roses Valley – Dades Gorges – Draa Valley – Zagora
We drive to Boumalne Dades and begin the ascent into the Dades Gorges, climbing the cliffs to the village of Ikniouen. From there, we take a piste track of 56 kilometers through the Jebel Saghro, arriving in Nkob by lunchtime. Since this stretch is one of the most remote sections of the entire route, expect raw scenery and very few other vehicles.
After lunch, we join a road that follows part of the Draa River, which rises in the Atlas Mountains and winds south through palm groves and ancient villages. By evening, we arrive in Zagora — a desert town whose most famous landmark is the old sign pointing toward Timbuktu, 52 days away by camel.
Overnight: Hotel in Zagora (dinner and breakfast included)
Day 4: Zagora – Tamegroute – Mhamid – Chegaga Desert
In the morning, we visit Tamegroute, home to the Zaouia Naciria complex — a mosque, library, madrasa, and mausoleum that form one of Morocco’s most important centers of Islamic learning. Next, we continue south to Mhamid, where the paved road ends and the Chegaga Desert begins. The Algerian border lies only 40 kilometers from here, so we stop in Mhamid for lunch before heading into the dunes.
In the afternoon, we take a 60-kilometer piste track deep into the Chegaga — one of Morocco’s most remote and breathtaking desert landscapes. Unlike the more frequently visited Erg Chebbi near Merzouga, the Chegaga dunes feel genuinely wild and uncrowded. We watch the sunset from the sand before settling into a traditional Berber camp for the night.
Overnight: Desert camp in Chegaga (dinner and breakfast included)
Day 5: Chegaga Desert – Iriki Lake – Tazenakht – Ouarzazate
After spending the night in the Chegaga, we take a piste track leading to the Iriki Lake — a dry lake bed for most of the year, ringed by dunes and delivering some of the most otherworldly scenery on this entire 6 days Morocco desert tour from Marrakech. We arrive in Foum Zguid by lunchtime.
In the afternoon, the route continues by road through Tazenakht, an important center for traditional Berber carpet weaving. Although the day covers significant ground, the constantly changing landscapes make the drive feel far shorter than the map suggests. By evening, we arrive back in Ouarzazate for dinner.
Overnight: Hotel in Ouarzazate (dinner and breakfast included)
Day 6: Ouarzazate – Tizi n'Tichka – Marrakech
On the final morning of this 6 days start from Marrakech to desert and back route, we cross the High Atlas one last time via the Tizi n’Tichka pass. We stop for lunch along the way before descending into the Marrakech plain, arriving in the city in the late afternoon.

When is the best time of year for Sahara desert tour?
The most pleasant weather in all six destinations is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). But the tour runs all year and winter desert nights in Chegaga have their own stark, unforgettable atmosphere.
How do I book this 6 days Morocco desert tour from Marrakech?
We can be contacted via WhatsApp, email, or phone. Simply pay a small deposit to reserve your dates. When your tour begins, the remaining amount is due.

Is this tour good for families with kids?
Yes. Because the pace spreads the journey across six full days, families find the 6 days Marrakech Morocco desert tour far more manageable than compressed three-day routes.
How long is the drive each day?
Driving ranges from around 4 hours on lighter days to 6–7 hours on Day 3 and Day 5, which include piste sections. Since the route stops regularly at gorges, kasbahs, and viewpoints, the driving rarely feels continuous.
